If there is one company that’s prominently riding on the current trend to have glowy, readiant skin, then it must be Pixi. The skincare aisles at my local department store have a wide selection of various serums, toners and creams all promising to make you dewier and glowier in one way or another. Pixi also seems to have a “clean beauty” makeup line with tinted lip balms, lip & cheek sticks, lipsticks, glosses and some eyeshadows.

Yes, everyone, brace yourselves. The holiday season is coming and along with it endless reruns of “Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart”, cringeworthy scenes from Love Actually and an all-round happy orgy of consumerism to stave off the winter blues. One of the staples of this season is of course the slow trickle of cosmetics brands holiday collections, featuring the latest and glitteriest glam to apply on your eyes, lips and cheeks before you go out to your annual company holiday party (nothing more cringeworthy than seeing your drunk colleagues lip-syncing to Mamma Mia in a crowded pub).

MAC Cosmetics has recently ventured into the world of k-beauty with a collaboration with the makeup artist Park Hye-Min. One of the lip products released as part of this collection is a line of Matte Lip Mousse products - a kind of liquid lip that gives a very natural, feathered look to the lips. The colour story of the Lip Mousse collection features classic reds, bright fuscias, pinky corals, deep burgundys and rosy mauves.

Hygge, lagom, glögg, and the minimalist Ikea aesthetic are just some ways in which the Nordics (in particular Scandinavia) have entered the capitalist consciousness. Given the sucess of the aforementioned, it is no surprise that this nature-y, earth-y-with-a-Skandi-touch brand aesthetic is also making its way into the cosmetics aisles. On a recent tour of Åhlens (a big department store in the centre of Stockholm), I couldn’t help but stumble upon a few brands that claimed to have distilled and bottled this down to earth, woolly-sock-wearing foresty essence.

In the wake of Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty foundation line, which was probably one of the first truly inclusive foundation shade ranges, many brands have started expanding their foundation shade ranges. In order to make browsing foundation products easier, I’ve decided to start developing an interface similar to the Browse All interface on lipcolourmatch.com for complexion products like foundation, concealer, tinted moisturiser and bronzer. This product is still in an extremely early stage, but if you wish, you can browse a sample interface at complexion.
